Capital Area Science and Math Center

The Capital Area Science and Mathematics Center (CASM) provides services in science and mathematics education to K-12 students and teachers in mid-Michigan. CASM is housed at Clinton County RESA and has the following program partners: Clinton County RESA, Eaton ISD, Ingham ISD, Ionia County ISD, Shiawassee RESD, and Lansing Community College.

CASM is a member of the Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network, a collaboration of 33 regional centers throughout the state created by the Michigan Legislature to elevate mathematics and science education for all students in Michigan. AFTER SCHOOL MATH PLUS: FALL APPLICATIONS
Applications are now being accepted for schools to participate in CASM’s fall After School Math Plus program. Schools selected for ASMP select a team of 8-12 4th and 5th grade students to meet after school and at Impression 5 Science Center for engaging math activities culminating in the design and construction of a model community to scale. There is space available for four schools in the fall program. Details and school applications will be posted below. Contact Julie Fick at CASM jfick@ccresa.org for details.
IN-DEPTH SESSIONS FOR ALGEBRA TEACHERS CONTINUE
CASM is offering a second opportunity for high school Algebra 1 teachers to examine their practice and increase their ability to reach ALL students in Algebra through the EMATHS program - "Embracing Mathematics and Technology in High School". The in-depth series will be held at CCRESA for four days in June and another 4 days in August. 45 teachers from across CASM's 5-county service area are already signed up and ready to go, (registration is full at this point).

EMATHS is available through a Math/Science Partnership grant program out of Macomb Intermediate School District. This is the fourth offering from this grant project; previous topics included Algebra 2 and Geometry.
HS-MASS 4 WORKSHOPS HELPING STUDENTS WRITE IN SCIENCE
High school science teachers are learning strategies to improve students' abilities to write and communicate in science. The three-part series concludes in April with teachers sharing the lessons they created and implemented with their students.  Participants are receiving a $400 stipend and a Flip Video camera for their classrooms. The lessons created through this program should be available to other teachers later this year.
